App: Rod Sense, by Rod Sense LLC

The short version
Rod Sense keeps your casting data on your phone. It has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics, and it doesn't send your data to us or to anyone else. Data leaves your phone only when you choose to share or export it.
What the app records, and where it stays
- Motion sensor readings from your phone (rotation, acceleration, gyroscope) while you practise, and from Rod Sense Bluetooth sensors if you use them. These are saved as session files inside the app's own storage on your phone and are deleted automatically after 30 days. Your scores and history are kept.
- Session results: scores, findings, cast counts, and the other numbers shown on the review and history screens. Saved inside the app on your phone.
- Your settings and targets, such as voice, level, water type, and any instructor targets. Saved inside the app on your phone.
- Video, only if you connect a Rod Sense rod sensor, switch the camera on, and press record. Videos are saved to your phone's Movies/Rod Sense folder, where your other apps (such as your gallery) can see them.
We don't collect your name, email address, contacts, or location.
Permissions the app asks for
- Bluetooth: to connect to Rod Sense motion sensors. The app connects only to its own sensors.
- Location (Android 11 and older only): older versions of Android require location permission before an app can search for Bluetooth devices. Rod Sense never reads or records your location.
- Camera: only to record video of your casting when you choose to.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only): to save the videos you record to your Movies folder.
- Vibration and keeping the screen awake: for coaching feedback during a session.
When data leaves your phone
Only when you choose to:
- Share session report or Export raw data opens Android's share menu and sends the report or file to the app or person you pick.
- Export backup saves your history to a file that you share or store where you choose.
Android backup
If you have turned on Android's backup for your phone, Android may copy your history, settings, and targets to your Google account and restore them to a new phone. The raw session files and exported backups are left out of Android's backup. This is handled by Android and Google under your Google account's settings, not by us. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.
Deleting your data
- Delete a single session, or all sessions, on the History screen. This removes the session's scores and its raw session file.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored, except videos you recorded, which stay in your Movies folder until you delete them.
Children
Rod Sense is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
